Background Information

Ben Adamson

Hi, I’m Ben Adamson — a twenty-six-year-old designer from Minnesota. Thanks for taking the time to review some of my work! My passion for design was originally propelled by my love of music. In 2003, a band I was playing with in high school wanted to establish an online presence in order to connect with our listeners. Since I had always been a bit of a technology hobbyist, I decided to read a few tutorials and try my hand at web design before resorting to hiring an outside party. Although the first web pages I cobbled together were nothing short of hideous, I discovered an instant connection to design as a creative outlet (just like the songwriting I was already doing in the band), as well as an amazing sense of satisfaction in working through the problem solving required in both the front-end and back-end of web design.

I spent the next few years sharpening my design skills, moving from table-based HTML to semantic and standards-compliant XHTML and CSS (and eventually HTML5 and CSS3), while doing various freelance projects for other bands and various local businesses via word of mouth. In 2007, I decided to take the first professional step and broaden my education by pursuing a Bachelors degree in Graphic Design. As if that wasn’t enough, I am currently pursuing Masters degree in Interactive Design from the University of Minnesota. If all goes according to plan, I hope to graduate in the Spring of 2013. If you would like more specific information on my background, skillset, and experience, please have a look at my Resume and Design Statement.
